In the first of the series of interviews, Ramanujam Sridhar, Advisory Board Member of Talentnow and CEO, Brand-comm speaks to Dr. Vivek Mansingh, Country Manager, Dell R & D about what makes Dell a compelling place to work.

Ramanujam Sridhar (RS): I just wanted a few thoughts on your vision on what your industry is looking for in terms of talent. Are there specifically any key qualities that one should have?

Dr. Vivek Mansingh (VM): At Dell we have a competency model that we follow to identify leadership skills, communication ability, positive attitude, past experience and technical skills among others.

But if you ask me personally what I look for - assuming they they have the above traits I would look for high initiative and high energy. Leadership of course is my all time favourite.

RS: About your company, mission and vision?

VM: Dell India is a very large organisation that is doing a number of things including sales, customer support, financial services, analytics etc. but let me focus on what I am responsible for - research and development. Our mission is to be global team players in developing enterprise software products & solutions. We work together to create enterprise products which are sold all over the world including India .Our Bangalore centre pre dominantly focuses on enterprise software, solutions, test & documentation.

RS: What sort of growth plans do you have?

VM: At Dell R & D, we measure growth in three different ways: namely level of ownership, complexity of the work and innovation.

Ownership of the products we are designing and success of the products in the market. Complexity of the technology and processes that we are working on. Finally, innovation. Last year alone we had 400 information disclosures from our India team. This to me is a healthy sign of growth for Dell India R & D.
